North Somerset Tutors (NST) was established in 2005 by John and Janet Miller, both of whom have extensive experience in classroom teaching and private tuition. It was taken over in 2008 by Louise Johnston-Harris who has 30 years teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. For the last five years, Louise has specialised in private tuition, teaching English from KS2 to 'A' Level.

Despite the change in ownership, the ethos of NST remains the same: to provide high quality, individualised tuition to enable students of all ages and capabilities to reach their potential. The concern of the tutor is always to meet the needs of the individual student in a way that best suits that student.

All our tutors are well-qualified, have in-depth knowledge of their subject and are well-versed in the requirements of the various examination boards. They all have excellent references and a current enhanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Disclosure.

As far as we can, we make sure that every tutor is someone in whom our clients can have complete confidence.

General Information:

Tuition is mainly one to one, usually in the student's own home where they feel more comfortable. Sometimes the student travels to the tutor if this is more convenient.
Some tuition is for long term support and some for specific help with examinations.
There is no fixed contract: tuition continues only as long as the student and/or tutor feel is necessary.
Once tuition starts, the client deals directly with the tutor. However, NST is always available to support both the client and the tutor, especially if a problem arises.

Fees:

KS1 to GCSE: £26 per hour

A/S Level and above: £30 per hour

Payment by cash or cheque to the tutor at the end of each lesson.

Cancellation Policy

As our tutors plan and prepare lessons for each individual student, advance notice of cancellation is much appreciated to avoid wasting time.

However, we do appreciate that illness cannot be predicted, nor the occasional crucial sporting fixture, so, provided at least 12 hours notice is given, no charge is made.

However, a 'no-show' or cancellation without valid cause will always be charged for at the full lesson. rate.

Become a Tutor:

Well qualified, enthusiastic tutors, particularly in the core areas of Maths, Science and English, are welcome to register. You do not have to be/have been a qualified teacher, but you should have a degree in your subject, and some experience of working with young people is an advantage.

You should also be willing to spend time in planning and preparation as well as being up to date on the syllabus and examination requirements of the various boards.

You will also need a current Enhanced CRB Disclosure as tutoring is classified as a "Regulated Position" under the Protection of Children Act. If you do not have a CRB then this can be obtained for you through NST at your own expense.

Registration with NST is free and there is no obligation to accept any tuition that is offered.
